Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio) died early Wednesday afternoon at a Cleveland area hospital, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. She suffered a brain aneurysm while driving her car Tuesday and was reportedly taken off life support at 12:19 p.m. |

This year, the Sumner County Democratic Women have a lot to be excited about right here in Sumner County. We’re working especially hard for our great slate of candidates. We know that Sumner County is ready for change, and just as we’ve rolled up our sleeves to support Homesafe and Hannah’s Place, to give a new recreation room to the Gallatin Veteran’s Home and to clean up our stretch of adopted highway, we’re rolling up our sleeves to support our candidates. |

Bredesen signs cable and paper ballot bills |

NASHVILLE -- Gov. Phil Bredesen ceremonially signed the Competitive Cable and Video Services Act into law today to streamline the introduction of video and broadband services over telephone lines in competition with cable TV. The compromise bill was heavily lobbied by AT&T for two years and opposed by the cable industry. It will allow telecommunications companies to apply for and obtain a single statewide franchise license to deliver cable programming, as opposed to the current longstanding process requiring separate franchise agreements negotiated with individual cities and counties.
