It may seem early to think about officers to be elected next April, but really it’s not! None of the current TFDW officers can serve another term, so we need good candidate for all offices.
I’m writing today to give you an early heads-up about the procedures for nominating and electing those officers. The current bylaws set out this procedure:
“Candidates for the offices outlined in Article V, Section 1, shall file a statement of candidacy with the elections committee chair by Certified Mail sixty (60) days prior to the annual convention at which the election shall take place.”
That means the deadline for me to receive those statements is February 16, 2009. It’s not too soon to be thinking about running for office.
Offices are:
President Vice President West Vice President Middle Vice President East Treasurer Recording Secretary Corresponding Secretary
The bylaws also provide that the Presidency shall be rotated among the grand divisions, so the next President will come from East Tennessee.
Statements of candidacy should be sent by Certified Mail to:
Any member of the Federation can submit names of candidates for office. If no names are submitted for any office by the deadline, the Elections Committee shall nominate someone. Nominations can be made from the floor. The list of candidates will be in the Call to Convention.
Information about Elections will also be available at the January Board meeting. If you have any questions, call me at (901) 272-3819 or (901) 674-3819 (cell) or email at

October 15, 2008 the LCDW hosted a Young Democrats Debate Watch party. We did a phone bank for an hour before the debate, then sat back with munchies and soft drinks to watch the show. 20 young Democrats from Loudon Co. attended.
